Complémentaire santé solidaire (CSS): free top-up health cover in France

The Complémentaire santé solidaire (CSS) is public top-up health insurance for people on low incomes. It covers what CPAM does not reimburse — the remaining cost of doctor visits, medicines, hospital stays, and glasses, dentures and hearing aids from the “100% Santé” range — with no upfront payment. Depending on income it is free or costs a small monthly contribution.
